Class/Workshop Information

I offer classes and workshops in MODERN, JAZZ, BALLET, IMPROVISATION AND COMPOSITION, in many different formats.

BEGINNING WORKSHOPS

Young dancers have a chance to explore movement in relationship to sports and other daily activities. Interaction among students, trials in composition and music appreciation will broaden their understanding of the arts today. Discussions that display the differences between the dance of yesterday and today, invite a new awareness to the students.

WORKSHOPS
(Intermediate-Advanced)

Taking an intense view into choreographic procedure and movement investigation, the dancers will have the opportunity to learn different styles and genres of dance and work together exploring improvisation and composition.

Single workshops can be any length period of time ranging from a two to four hour period, with the appropriate breaks.

2-3 day workshops include four to five hours each day, with appropriate breaks (snack and lunch), and a small demonstration at the conclusion of the workshop.

MASTER CLASSES

1 and 1/2 hours: warm-up, technique, and movement investigation
2 hours: warm up, technique concentration and study, movement investigation
3 hours: First hour and a half: warm-up with intense concentration and attention toward specific technical details, movement investigation
Second hour and a half: focusing on choreographic interpretation, and interactive study, developing a series of movement phrases that are linked, establishing various movement qualities

(BEGINNER LEVELS: 1 AND 1/2 HOUR WORKSHOPS ARE RECOMMENDED)

Honoring A Legacy - April 06, 2010
Today I was honored to be a part of the celebration of Dr. Sherrill Berryman-Johnson. I have never seen so many people come and rejoice for a single human being. Dr. Johnson lived her life to advance and educate young and promising artists...Her students spoke loudly and proudly in her honor. Ronald K. Brown expressed his love and gratitude with the work that he presented. Three hours wasn't enough time for all to say and share what she meant to all of us, but the words that were left today in her honor were amazing. I am so grateful to have been a small part of her life, and to be able to say she has been a large part of mine. I'll miss you Dr. Johnson, ...you were right.
